Flakka Drug – the monster unleashed

Drug abuse is very common in any developed or developing country in the world. While the under developed countries are still fighting against issues like smoking and alcohol, other countries have bigger headache. The import of illegal drugs is becoming a huge threat for the health and safety of the working population. Though there are a few who fight for the legalisation of drugs, the ones who got their lives spoiled by drugs are the majority.

Flakka Drug

One such drug is Flakka, also known as the zombie drug or gravel. The proper chemical name of the drug is alpha Pyrrolidinopentiophenone. This was initially developed as a designer drug in the early 1960s. The chemical formula is C15H21NO. A designer drug is something that is developed to fool the government by adding or removing a few chemicals in a drug that is banned. For example, imagine a drug has 3 parts of chemical X and 2 parts of chemical Y and it is banned by the government. Drug sellers will alter the drug to 4 parts of chemical X and 3 parts of chemical Y. Result will be slightly different but the drug will not be illegal as the chemical name and composition are different.

These are the two common names flakka has got in the local drug markets all over the world. First name gravel comes from the drug’s appearance. It looks very similar to the decorative sand or gravel we use in aquariums. Few drug smugglers mix aquarium gravel and flakka to escape from visual inspection of the police. The next name “zombie drug” is named after the drug’s effects. People, who took the flakka drug, move in a way that is very similar to the way the zombies move in “Resident evil movie”. The people after taking the drug will most likely walk like this.

Why Flakka Drug is famous?

Flakka Drug

It will be inappropriate to say flakka is famous. The reason why it is use by people all over the world is that it very cheap. In some localities, it is also called as the 5$ drug. Some might convert 5$ to their national currency and find it expensive. But when compared to other drugs like cocaine, this is dirt cheap. Second reason why teenagers have become addictive to this drug is the hype around it. When someone says not to try something, it is human nature to try it out (take Adam and Eve for example).

What does flakka drug do the body?

Flaka Drug

Jim Hall, a drug abuse specialist at Florida says it is very difficult for people to judge the amount to take. A little higher amount than the safe limit can kill the person taking flakka drug. True to the name (La Flaca means a beautiful woman in Spanish) this drug can make you forget this world. The chemicals in this drug make a surface around the neurons in the nerves and prevent them from releasing the “mood controlling” dopamine and serotonin levels very low. This means if a person is angry, he will be angry like the hulk. If a person is romantic, he will become as romantic as me. Jokes apart, this drug will send the emotions of the one taking it to the maximum level and prevent the body from bringing it down. Other drugs like cocaine do exactly the same but flakka can stay in the body for more time, sometimes the effect may be permanent.

One more dirty side of flakka drug is the effect of flakka on the kidneys. This dirty drug can break down the muscle fibres and will cause hyperthermia. When this condition gets worse it will lead to kidney failure. People who took this “zombie drug” for long are now dependent on dialysis for the rest of their lives.

What is the law doing?

In short – They are doing all they can. Every time they try to ban it, they alter the drug composition a little bit and sell it. Governments all around the world are acting vigilantly on it. The regional drug prevention agencies have put a “temporary” ban on it but some clever folks can easily get around it. Simple – stick a note similar to this:

It is said that majority of this drug is exported from China. The export import offices around the world are trying their best to cut this down but the results are not very pleasing.
